Role Overview
The selected candidate will play a key role in evaluating the Board’s effectiveness, ensuring strong leadership and governance, and overseeing strategic direction. Key responsibilities include:
- Board Effectiveness & Leadership: Assessing the Board’s performance in fulfilling its duties.
- Executive Oversight: Appointing, evaluating, and overseeing the Managing Director, ensuring proper compensation, and planning for succession.
- Strategic Planning: Reviewing and approving strategic and organizational plans.
- Financial Oversight: Approving Vodacom’s financial objectives, budgets, and major expenditures.
- Corporate Governance: Facilitating appropriate governance structures and compliance.
- Risk Management: Identifying, managing, and monitoring strategic risks.
- Performance Monitoring: Overseeing corporate performance against strategic goals.
- Major Transactions: Reviewing and approving material transactions outside regular business operations.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate should possess: Vodacom Is Hiring Board Member
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Marketing, Actuarial Science, Economics, Law, ICT, Fintech, Engineering, Human Resources, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification in a business-related field (preferred).
- 10+ years of experience as a director in a medium to large company with a focus on business development and turnaround.
- 5+ years of board experience, including serving on board committees.
- Prior board leadership experience in a listed company (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of financial management, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and investment decision-making.
- Experience in the financial services industry or corporate finance (added advantage).
- A well-networked individual with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships.
- No conflicts of interest that may affect independence as a director.
