Job Purpose
The underwriting officer is responsible for assessing and evaluating insurance applications to determine risk exposure and acceptability. This role involves analyzing documentation, determining coverage amounts, and ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will work closely with clients and internal teams to provide efficient and effective underwriting services.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate insurance applications and related documents to assess risk and determine coverage eligibility.
- Analyze client information and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Determine appropriate coverage amounts and premiums based on risk assessment.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to process applications efficiently and effectively.
- Provide guidance and support to clients regarding underwriting decisions and requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and documentation.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in underwriting.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance, risk management, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting or a similar role within the insurance or banking industry.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting software.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
