Job Purpose

The Relationship Manager, Agri Retail, is responsible for marketing agribusiness SME products and services to grow assets and liabilities. This role involves generating leads, processing and assessing SME agri-credit applications, and reviewing credit appraisals from relationship officers within the designated zone. The incumbent will analyze the performance of all agri-SMEs in their area against set budgets and ensure compliance with quality standards of agri-loans. Additionally, they will advise the Head of Agri Retail on business anomalies and support product development initiatives tailored to agribusiness customers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare action plans to achieve asset and liability budget objectives for the assigned zone.
  • Review and advise on the bank’s pricing policy for agri-loan products based on field feedback.
  • Initiate improvements for customer engagement platforms such as business clubs and Agri Executive Networks.
  • Monitor and supervise all MSME agri-loans issued in the zone to ensure a quality portfolio.
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc evaluation reports on Agri-MSME performance concerning assets and liabilities.
  • Develop and review marketing strategies for new and existing agri-loan products.
  • Ensure proper functioning of agri-loan product delivery processes and recommend improvements.
  • Review credit appraisals from relationship officers requiring further assessment.
  • Assist branches and zones in preparing budgets for Agri-MSME assets and liabilities.
  • Train and coach relationship officers on best practices in evaluating and assessing agri-loan applicants.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of agribusiness economics and the role of credit in business development.
  • Familiarity with agribusiness retail banking products and services within agricultural value chains.
  • Understanding of agriculture sector dynamics and relevant laws.
  • Awareness of other banks’ loan products, policies, and procedures for cross-selling purposes.
  • Proficiency in banking operations and financial markets in Tanzania.
  • Insight into the Agri-MSME market and general business environments in agricultural value chains.
  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Self-motivated and innovative with the ability to initiate and lead change.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills with a focus on providing solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili, including numerical, analytical, report writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Managerial and leadership capabilities, including conceptual thinking and resourcefulness.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Skills in people management, representation, team building, and developing high-performing teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, banking, business administration, finance, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 4 years of banking experience, including roles in credit assessment, project appraisal, and other bank operations.
