Job Description
The International UN University Volunteer, Advocacy and Knowledge Management Associate will support both UNDP Tanzania and the UNV Field Unit in Tanzania to deliver on their mandate in the country. The role will involve supporting various communication and partnership initiatives, including knowledge management, advocacy, and volunteer mobilization.
Responsibilities
- Support the UNDP’s Communications and Partnership Analyst to enhance UNDP Tanzania’s visibility, market successful projects, document successes and best practices, improve internal communication and strengthen media relations to keep the public and stakeholders informed about our role and activities.
- Assisting in systematic capturing of key achievements and lessons learnt of UNDP activities for knowledge sharing and improvement of the CO overall knowledge management system.
- Assisting various Programme teams/ portfolios in the organization of key events and communication opportunities, such as major conferences, workshops, discussions and report launches, including graphic designing of reports, infographics and case studies.
- Assist in maintenance and updating of the UNDP website and social media pages, preparation of press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, web content, articles and general correspondence, among others.
- Assist in providing technical support to the intelligence team and the UNDP Resident Representative and part in UNCG (United Nations Communications Group) related activities.
- Assist the Country Coordinator in establishing, fostering and maintaining effective out-reach and relationships with the 23 UN Agencies in Tanzania, including assisting the UN System in the integration of volunteerism and adopting volunteer solutions in the implementation of 2022-2027 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF);
- Assist the Country Coordinator in establishing fostering and maintaining effective out-reach and relationships with the government, UN agencies, the private sector, relevant development partners and local civil society organizations – NGOs that focus on volunteerism/Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs), to contribute to community-led sustainable development in the country.
- Under the delegated authority of the UNV Country Coordinator, assist the UNV Regional Office for East and Southern Africa and the Communications Section at UNV Headquarters, in preparing, disseminating and presenting country-specific promotional information on the mandate and work of UNV with relevant development partners and the media.
- Assist the Country Coordinator in coordinating activities and plan events, in collaboration with other UN Agencies, for annual, national and UN-recognized international celebrations, including the International Volunteer Day (IVD);
- Support the UNV Country Coordinator in the development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials including documenting, and drafting volunteer stories, experiences, best practices and lessons learned for awareness raising, positioning of UNV with the UN Agencies, advocacy and volunteer mobilization as linked to UNV Strategic Framework outcomes.
- Support in providing regular updates to the UNV Social media platforms/pages including Instagram and Twitter accounts
- Participate in UN Communications Group and contribute to identifying new and creative ways to show how volunteerism can be integrated and mainstreamed in the UN programmes, promote a coherent image of the UNV and participate in developing a common UN Communications and Advocacy Action Plan and Workplans.

- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e., studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly desired.
