The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) is pleased to announce a five-day training course on Laboratory Risks and Opportunities, scheduled to take place from 09th to 13th June, 2025 in Arusha City.

This course aims to equip laboratory professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify, assess, and manage risks, as well as recognize potential opportunities within laboratory operations. The training is grounded in the requirements of international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189, and ISO 31000.

Course Title: LABORATORY RISKS AND OPPORTUNITIES

The course is designed for a wide range of professionals including: laboratory analysts, laboratory technicians, chemists, microbiologists, metrologists, quality control and quality assurance officers, laboratory quality managers, manufacturing quality control personnel, and other related professionals.

Course Outline

The course will cover the following key areas:

  1. Overview of risks and opportunities;
  2. Risks and opportunities as defined in ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189;
  3. Risk assessment principles based on ISO 31000;
  4. Identification of opportunities for improvement;
  5. Impacts and benefits of effective risk management.

Training Approach and Methodology

The course will be delivered in a bilingual format (Swahili-English) through a mix of interactive tutor-led sessions, group discussions, participant-led contributions, and experience-sharing activities. The training emphasizes practical understanding and participatory learning.

Expected Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply risk assessment techniques and identify opportunities within laboratory settings;
  • Effectively document identified risks and opportunities;
  • Enhance compliance with statutory and regulatory frameworks relevant to laboratory operations.

Course Requirements

All participants are required to attend with a laptop or iPad, as these will be essential for practical exercises and documentation tasks.

Location and Venue

The training will take place in Arusha City. The exact venue will be communicated directly to registered participants ahead of the training start date.

Course Assessment and Certification

Participants will be assessed through group work, exercises, individual assignments, and a final test. Those who score 60% or above will be awarded a Certificate of Successful Completion. Participants who score below 60% will receive a Certificate of Attendance. All trainees will be provided with training materials for future reference. Full attendance throughout the course is mandatory.

Course Fees

The training fee is:

  • TZS 500,000 per participant for Tanzanians, or
  • USD 500 per participant for foreigners.

The fee is non-refundable and covers tuition, stationeries, training materials, meals, and refreshments. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Payment Information

Course fees must be paid in full before the commencement of training. A Government Bill will be issued to applicants upon registration.

Postponement and Cancellation Policy

Should a participant fail to attend, the paid fee will not be refunded. If the Bureau postpones the training, participants will be notified at least ten (10) days in advance and provided with a new date for the course.
