The Eastern Africa Area (EAA) Procurement team, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is seeking a dynamic Procurement Specialist. This role will be responsible for executing sourcing activities related to Warehousing, Distribution, Cold Storage, Container Depots, Landside Transport, and Customs House Brokerage.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Procurement Activities:

  • Collaborate with leadership to manage day-to-day procurement tasks, ensuring every dollar spent is spent professionally.
  • Lead market engagement efforts to source cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality procurement solutions.
  • Conduct market tests (RFI, RFQ, RFP) and analyze vendor products to secure the best deal.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers, ensuring annual comparisons to optimize procurement value.
  • Manage vendor relationships, resolving grievances or claims.

Category Focus Areas:

  • Third-party warehousing & cold storage
  • Industrial real estate for self-managed sites
  • OPEX and CAPEX items for self-managed sites (e.g., material handling equipment, racking & mezzanines, third-party labor, security services, etc.)
  • Middle and final-mile distribution services
  • Container depots & related services
  • First-mile land side transport (road, rail, barge)
  • Depot & facilities management
  • Customs House Brokerage

Procurement Strategy Execution:

  • Implement category strategies for the listed areas, informed by market intelligence and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and execute Maersk’s procurement strategies in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Provide necessary support for customer tenders, ensuring timely submissions.
  • Leverage global procurement processes, tools, and teams to drive cost leadership and best-in-class supplier performance.
  • Assist in implementing change management processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Travel:
  • Travel within the EAA area (self-managed sites and supplier locations) as required by business needs.

Who We Are Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years of procurement experience.
  • Knowledge of best-in-class procurement practices, particularly in logistics, is highly preferred.
  • Strong professional performance with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Experience in team and project management, driving end-to-end sourcing projects and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Experience in formulating and presenting sourcing strategies and process recommendations to leadership.

Key Skills:

  • Strong communication, planning, and prioritization skills, managing work activities efficiently to meet deadlines and goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to solve problems in a structured and analytical manner.
