Together with Tanganyika Development Company (now Tanzania Development Corporation), Cementia Holdings AG began construction of the cement mill at Wazo Hill in Dar es Salaam in 1962. Twenty percent of the company’s shares were owned by the Tanzanian government. The first bag of cement made in Tanzania was manufactured at the Wazo Hill factory when construction was finished in the middle of 1966.

Specific Knowledge

Main Duties

  1. Maintenance Management
    • Keep an eye on mechanical equipment maintenance to guarantee peak performance and reduce downtime.
    • Create and carry out schedules for preventive maintenance.
  2. Equipment Installation and Commissioning
    • Oversee the commissioning and installation of new machinery and mechanical systems.

    • To fix and restore equipment functionality, identify mechanical problems and put appropriate remedies in place.
  4. Quality Control
    • Verify that every mechanical system and component satisfies quality requirements.

  5. Project Management
    • Oversee mechanical projects, such as new installations and upgrades.
    • To guarantee that projects are finished on schedule and within budget, coordinate with other departments.
  6. Safety and Compliance
    • Verify that all mechanical processes adhere to environmental and safety norms.
    • Put safety procedures into action and evaluate risks.
  7. Documentation and Reporting
    • Keep thorough records of all maintenance procedures, equipment operation, and project advancement.
  8. Maintenance Management
    • Respond promptly and with little supervision to any reported plant crises or malfunctions.
    • To guarantee optimal plant availability, diagnose and fix operational equipment as soon as possible.
    • Ascertain that all planned shutdown activities, such as safety and services, are carried out according to schedule.
    • Respond quickly to any urgent mechanical breakdown repairs around the plant.
  9. Operational Planning and Budgeting
    • Create and carry out the mechanical section’s yearly operating plan and budget.
    • To keep equipment serviceable, make sure compressed air and water are distributed reliably.

Minimum Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
  • knowledge of mechanical design software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • familiarity with industry norms and regulations as well as mechanical system knowledge.
  • Registration with the Institute of Engineers Tanzania or the Engineers Registration Board.
